As many already know, we help distribute gospel “coins” for a ministry begun and solely operated by Burt Camenzind. The use of this witness tool has gained in popularity both in the US and abroad. They have, “Where will you spend eternity?” on one side and John 3:16 quoted on the other. We asked Burt to share something about his ministry so you can get to know him better.
As these men are trained, they become able to train other indigenous pastors and Christian workers. We do this because governments often restrict foreign travelers, and indigenous pastors will always be available to teach.
I was introduced to the gospel coins sometime during the 1990s through a friend who was a missionary and an Army Airborne Ranger of Vietnam era who said, “Better to send John 3:16 before we send the M-16.” It wasn’t until around 1997 that I came to appreciate them as a favorable tool to introduce the gospel. As my compassion for the lost grew, I was moved to have these “coins” produced in other languages. . . . How shall they believe in Him whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear . . . Romans 10:14.
No, I am not an expert in languages, but God does open doors. The gospel coins are now available in 96 languages, with more than 20 million having been provided to date. They have been given to and by some of our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan, distributed in prisons, including Siberia, used on the mission field around the world, and left behind with tips in restaurants.
I live in California near San Francisco where all 96 languages are resident. I carry at least 35 languages on me wherever I go. How dare I keep Jesus Christ a secret! We love because He first loved us. . I John 4:19.
